Some people work to cure cancer, others are fighting the war on poverty. Me? My selfless act is to help people spend money on stuff they need, like clothes and bags and makeup and, of course, killer shoes. But, that's not all. I like to eat. And complain (most specifically about how hard it is to be a mom). Oh, and obsess over the next perfect pair of shoes.

Does This Outfit Work?
Hello, welcome to the first installment of "Does This Outfit Work?"
I became obsessed with these J. Crew silk pants ever since seeing them on A Bigger Closet (see Feb. 28 "Sunday Style" posting). Well, as a friend pointed out, ABC is not of this world. She can wear things that the rest of us mere mortals just cannot pull off. I'm hoping these pants aren't a case in point.
Despite the horrible angle (what happens when you have a grumpy 10-year-old photographer who would rather be playing Jump Start World rather than do what you asked), the pants don't look bad in real life. They're just slouchy enough but not rapper baggy. I paired the pants with last year's wildly popular "cupcake" tank (again from J. Crew) and a matching Crew cardi. The snakeskin flats are Me Too.
Too much volume on top? Better off with a more form-fitting top? Lose the ruffles? Hmmmmm.

i just bought very similar pants, but not from jcrew.they told me to wear heels with it and a fitted top.try a black fitted tank and black gladiator heels or do everything in nude.
i probably would ditch the cardigan, but otherwise your outfit is cute.
I actually like the color you paired with. I guess those pants are versatile. I'm tempted to try them myself. Ooh, and I love those snakeskin flats!
jcrewphd - they're now down to $20 (!!) online, but only sizes 4 and 12. i got 'em for $30 and think they were worth it.
I think the pants look nice on you. And the shoes are really great. Have you tried the outfit with a different color cardigan?
I like your OOTD. It's like a casual but very put-together vibe. I just commented on Gigi's blog that I kind of dug these pants. I totally don't think they'd work for a shorty like me though.
love the pants!
Sorry, but I have to be honest; those pants make anyone's legs (except for ABC, who is tall & thin) look like an ice cream cone. The shiny fabric doesn't help either. I would look for a non-shiny fabric & style it with a simple slouchy boyfriend (no ruffles) tee and use a long scarf to create a longer visual line as well as wear sharp-looking heels, not flats.
Your camera is above you. Everyone looks different at that angle. The pants are fabulous, luxe casual.
Camera angle does not help for sure. And sometimes it really is all about the angle.
Dinagideon & I tried these on in store and really liked them - WAY comfy. The only reason I didn't bite is that they were still above $50 and that was too much for glorified sweatpants for me. (Plus I realized that puppy toenails might not mix so well with the fabric.) But I think that's the best way to wear them - with something very simple on top - like a tee. Dina did get them and has really liked them. Enjoy!!
