Some people work to cure cancer, others are fighting the war on poverty. Me? My selfless act is to help people spend money on stuff they need, like clothes and bags and makeup and, of course, killer shoes. But, that's not all. I like to eat. And complain (most specifically about how hard it is to be a mom). Oh, and obsess over the next perfect pair of shoes.

Recession-Proof Clothing
So, we're in a recession. That's what everyone keeps saying. If that's true, really, really, true, then how come there is only one nearly $800 Vince leather boatneck dress left in stock at Revolveclothing.com? (My bud Desert Flower has the Vince leather top. I've seen it, touched it. It's indescribably wonderful.)
And why is there only one nearly $600 Haute Hippie silk Gypsy dress left in my size?
Clearly some things are recession-proof.

I got my Vince top on sale for less than 1/2 price. Money well spent. I wonder too why so many of these high $$ items are sold out. Some people apparently have a different recession experience!
I read an article from the NYT recently about this "phenomenon." Apparently the really rich are starting to spend again: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/04/business/sales-of-luxury-goods-are-recovering-strongly.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=luxury%20shopping&st=cse
