J. Ann Crewpublic

Now here's a true test of your fashion prowess — see if you can tell which of these outfits came from J. Crew, Banana Republic and Ann Taylor Loft.

Hard, isn't it?

Each outfit looks like it was pulled from the same rack, but three different retailers produced 'em. You expect, with some labels anyway, that certain trends will be copied (distressed jeans, anyone?). But it seems like the mid-price range stores are all chasing J. Crew and creating some sort of mega label — J. Ann Crewpublic. Kinda sad that they're so indistinguishable, isn't it?

In case you didn't figure it out, here's your answer key:
Top: the Crack house (J. Crew)
Middle: Banana
Bottom: Ann Taylor Loft.

Wow. Everyone is drinking the Crewlade, even other retailers.

I walked into AT few weeks ago to use a coupon and I felt like walking in JCrew but for a bit more mature ladies. The sales associates were eager to help and make a sale! Seriously, I think a other retailers are doing a lot of JCrew lookalikes since I've seen them even at Nordstrom (Celosia cardigan copy)!

I picked out J. Crew right a way, I think because of the way the model is slouching, but I could not tell which was Loft and which was Banana Republic. And they do both look like J. Crew. Too bad because I'm not the biggest fan of J. Crew.

Yep..I've been saying this same thing. It's everywhere now. Referring to the JCA post, it's no wonder Mickey responded that way to other retailers (even though his mother should have taught him that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.) I do think it kind of a joke as it happens all the time. The trickle down effect of high-end designers being copied has been done forever. When other retailers decide to take notes on what has worked for JC and gotten them through the recession ahead of the game..well, why wouldn't they copy? The key is..now JC needs to come up with something NEW!! They aren't gonna stay ahead of the curve long at the rate of ruffle repeat that's going on now!
